Sliced veneer is a thin layer of wood obtained by slicing logs or timber blocks on special machines. It is one of the most widely used types of veneer in furniture production and interior design because it preserves the natural grain of the wood and has a very aesthetic appearance. The thickness of sliced veneer usually ranges from 0.5 to 2.5 mm, which allows its easy gluing onto various base materials such as particle boards, MDF boards or plywood.
The production process begins with the selection of high-quality wood, which is subsequently steamed or boiled to soften it and make it suitable for even slicing. The slicing itself takes place when a knife gradually removes thin layers of wood, while the resulting grain depends on the direction of the cut. It can be a radial, tangential or semi-radial cut. Each of them creates a different visual effect, which allows a wide range of uses in design.
Sliced veneer is mainly used in the production of furniture, doors, wall coverings or decorative elements. Its advantage is the efficient use of wood. A large number of thin sheets can be obtained from a single piece. At the same time, it preserves the appearance of solid wood, but is more economical and dimensionally more stable.
